Requirements

There are few requirements to heat your home with wood pellets. Already have a wood stove or fireplace? You're good to go.

Pellet baskets can be used with any wood-burning stove or fireplace. You do not need a special stove, electric fan, or blower. We do, however, recommend using a gelled fire starter to get your wood pellets started burning.

No installation required—just place the basket in your stove. If you want to build a regular log fire, wait for the fire to die down and just lift out the pellet basket—it's as easy as that.

Got my pellet basket today and wanted to say thank you—looks great! Your workmanship is top notch and I really appreciate you modifying the legs for me. It turned out beyond excellent! Heavy duty product—pictures do not do it justice. John from Illinois
You are awesome. Thanks for your consideration and prompt attention and glad you would answer my questions. Kathie from Iowa
I have to say it is wonderful. We have used it and what a difference it makes in our house. I have given your information out to at least 3 of my friends so far. This allows us to burn wood pellets without the high cost of a pellet stove. Thank you for the great product. Melini from Vermont
Just got the basket in the mail. Outstanding job on the modification! Thanks again. I am going to forward your website to my son who just bought a new home and is getting started with his fireplace. Jack from New York

Benefits of Heating With Wood Pellets

There are many good reasons to heat your homes with wood pellets instead of firewood.

Wood pellets burn hotter & more efficiently than conventional firewood

Our single-bay pellet baskets hold 12 lbs (5.4 kg) of wood pellets and can produce 35,000 BTUs per hour over the course of 3 – 4 hours—enough heat to keep your house comfortably warm.

Our 3-bay pellet baskets hold 16 lbs (7.25 kg) of pellets. We recommend this size for larger stoves and fireplaces

Pellet fuel is a fraction of the price of oil & electric heat

Pellet fuel prices are more stable than oil and electric prices. Wood pellet prices and are not as greatly affected by foreign price fluctuations since they can be bought from companies within your own country or continent.

Buy Wood Pellets at Retail Stores

Wood pellets are sold at retail stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, Ace, TSC, Blain's, Farm & Fleet, and Rural King.

Search For Wood Pellet Dealer Near You

If you live in the United States or Canada, the Pellet Fuels Institute has a nice list of wood pellet dealers; broken down into regions.

Burns cleaner, safer & leaves less of a mess

Wood pellets contain only 3% – 6% moisture, compared to 15% – 30% in firewood—making it better for the environment.

Wood pellets are safer because they greatly lessen creosote buildup and the chance of flue fires since they burn cleaner than regular firewood. In fact, only 1 coffee cup of ash is left at the end of the day.

Easier to store than conventional firewood

Wood pellets are easier to store than conventional firewood. You also do not have to deal with household litter from bark, or bugs.

Wood pellets come in bags which may be bought singly, or an entire season's fuel can be purchased all at once.

Using Pellet Baskets

How Do You Light Wood Pellets?

  1. Place the pellet basket in your wood stove or fireplace & fill the basket with wood pellets
  2. Have your damper (or air intake) set for maximum air flow
  3. Light pellets with the help of a gelled fire starter (such as One Match from Rutland.com
  4. Enjoy the heat

Adjusting the Temperature

You can use your stove's damper to choke your airflow down and regulate the temperature.

Unlike pellet stoves, you don't need a fan to circulate air within the stove. Because of the way our pellet baskets are designed, there is enough air flow through the basket itself to allow the pellets to burn with a flame.

You can always add more pellets when needed. Simply use a metal scoop to move the hot pellets to one side of the pellet basket. Add fresh wood pellets beside the already hot ones. The hot pellets will ignite the fresh pellets and will not smolder as much as putting them directly on top of the hot pellets.

Readjust your air settings for a safe working temperature.

Like wood stoves, in order to get optimal heat, fireplaces need some kind of door for optimal results. A door helps retain heat and helps the pellets burn more efficiently.
